Medical Education in India is given an important consideration from an international point of view. The Medical Council of India (MCI) controls medical Education in India.All States and all Universities or Colleges that give medical education is monitored and timely inspected by the Medical Council of India every year. They allow colleges or universities to grant MBBS, MS, MD, BDS, MDS or any Graduate or PG degree or diploma provided those colleges are strictly adhering to the standards set by the Medical Council of India.
Direct admission
The MBBS course is of four and a half year's and is followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship. The course is taken in three stages, following a short foundation course which provides basic principles of Communication, Ethics and Problem Based Learning. The first stage is for 12 months and covers the basic sciences of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry. The next stage is for 18 months and includes Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine. The last stage is for 24 months and covers Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology

MS - Master Of Surgery
Master of Surgery is a Post Graduate Academic Degree awarded for a course or program in the field of Surgery.It is also known as M.S. which is an abbreviated form. The duration of Masters in Surgery degree is 3 years including the period of examination. Surgical residents are trained in the principles of surgery and actually operate under supervision. Master of Surgery provides a Doctor qualifiation in surgery. Upon successful completion of the course doctors become certified Surgeons.
MD - Doctor Of Medicine
Doctor of Medicine is a doctoral degree for physicians (medical doctors). The MD degree is granted by medical schools and colleges all over. In India, MD degree is a higher postgraduate degree, representative of specialty training. Eligibility for the MD course is restricted to those holding the MBBS degree and training is attained in medical disciplines which are non-surgical in nature such as Internal Medicine, Radiology, Pathology etc. After 3 years of study and the successful completion of an exam that covers both theoretical and practical elements, the candidate receives an MD degree. BDS Course
Bachelor of dental surgery (BDS) degree is awarded at the successful completion of four years of study and one year of internship to the students as per the old regulations of Dental council of India. According to new regulations, the BDS course comprises of five years with no internship period. The course comprises didactic lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, seminars, clinical work and conferences. The aim and objective of the curriculum is to produce a dentist who is socially acceptable and is able to work safely and effectively on patients in diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and oral disease.
MDS - Master Of Dental Sciences
It is a 2 1/2 years' (30 months) course. Candidates are eligible for the course after obtaining a registrable BDS degree. MDS Courses are offered in Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Orthodontics, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Operative Dentistry, Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry. The MDS degree is conferred after acceptance of a thesis and after the candidate has passed the MDS examination which is held at the end of 30 months. The examination consists of 4 written papers, clinical (or practical) and oral examinations.
How To Get Admission
To obtain a medical seat candidates should appear for various entrance tests in All India level. An eligible candidate in the State has to be pass 12th class or equivalent with 50% marks in aggregate and pass the All India Entrance Test such as AIIMS Delhi, AIPGE, AIPMT Delhi, AFMC CEE-Kerala. In the state level, one student has to get through Common Entrance Test of concerned states. Most of the Government Medical Colleges offer admissions only to Indian students on the basis of their performance in a competitive entrance test, However, few Government Medical Colleges have some quota for NRI/Foreign students.
